A Photograph Of  My Mom

05.01.2023

“She talked about how she was supposed to be a vegetable, Amazed by how she survived. Then, she told me how she was shot in the head in the holocaust in a past life.

She was a rabbi.

That this summer, she will marry the man who raped her when she was 19.

And how she has a particle of  Moses' soul inside her.”

In 2004, my mother and brother were in a car crash.

My mother was left mentally disabled, and my brother was killed.

Due to her trauma, my mother became violent, aggressive, religious, and illogical.

Her perception of reality is sometimes interesting and sometimes nonexistent.

I see many similarities between my mother and Israel itself.

In 2023, I went on a seven-day trip across Israel with my mom, exploring our past and personal traumas in an attempt to tell a larger story about the reality in Israel today.

"A Photograph Of  My Mom" is a multimedia project that includes photographs taken on 120-color film, digital point-and-shoot, iPhone images, personal archives, video, and text.

“Mom finished peeing and saw me flipping off the landscape.

"You shouldn't do that. The military protects us."

"It didn't feel like it to me."

She flipped off the landscape too.”

This Project is ongoing.
